LEI codes
An LEI (Legal Entity Identifier) is a global organisational code which identifies companies and legal entities on the financial market. The requirement to use LEI codes is based on EU legislation about securities.
Companies and entities, for example registered associations and foundations, need an LEI code when trading in listed shares, exchange-traded fund (ETF) units and other securities or derivatives listed on the stock exchange.
You do not need to have an LEI code if you just own financial instruments.
Companies and entities with Finnish Business IDs, excluding branches, can apply for an LEI code at the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH).
Issued LEI codes are shown in the company search at ytj.fi
The PRH will not send a decision on the issuance of the LEI code. You can see the LEI code issued to a company or an entity in its details in the company search at ytj.fi, which is jointly provided by the PRH and the Finnish Tax Administration. The LEI code is shown in the search result under “LEI details" after “Business ID history". Go to the company search.Open link in a new tab
Download LEI files
Download LEI files to get information about issued LEI codes and new or changed details. You can download files concerning issued LEI codes and their owners.
The files CDF 1.0, CDF 2.1 and CDF 3.1 comprise information about the owners and registration details of LEI codes. CDF 1.0 and CDF 2.1 are old versions. Technically, CDF 3.1 is the latest version with new details.
An RR file (RelationshipRecord) comprises information about the consolidation relationships of LEI owners in cases where the owner has a parent entity with an LEI code. The file includes information about the LEI code of the owner and of the parent entity, the type of consolidation relationship (direct or ultimate parent entity) and its validity period, the accounting period of the parent entity and the accounting standard used. An RR 2.1 version is available of the RR file from 24 March 2022.
An EX file comprises information about LEI owners that have no parent entities or that have not filed parent entity details. In the latter case, the file includes the reason why parent entity details have not been filed. An EX 2.1 version is available of the EX file from 24 March 2022.
It is also possible to download files containing LEI details automatically from the website. There are five different types of LEI files. To download a file, use the URL address https://tietopalvelu.ytj.fi/leitiedostot/tiedostolataus.aspx?type=1&date=YYYYMMDD.
In the address, YYYY is the year, MM the month, and DD the day.
The file types are: Type 1 = CDF 1.0, Type 2 = CDF 2.1, Type 3 = RR, Type 4 = EX and Type 5 = CDF 3.1.
